Self Confidence: The First Key to Success

I found this article on the Internet. Loved the way it was written...

Believe in yourself. If you don't, no one else will. Self confidence is first on my list of keys to success; because it is the foundation of all success, especially career success. Self confident people are optimistic. They face their fears and take action. They surround themselves with positive people.

Times are tough. We're in a global recession. Millions of people are losing their jobs and homes. The stock market has tumbled precipitously. 2008 will be remembered as a tough year. But that shouldn't stop you from believing in yourself.

Be Optimistic

A lot of people think that optimism is overrated. It isn't. You have to back up your optimism with hard work, but if you begin each day and each task with the idea that things will work out fine, it's easier to do the work to make them work out fine.

I live my life by the words in The Optimist Creed. I have given away several hundred copies of the creed. I love it for what the positive message it imparts.

Face Your Fears and Take Action

I know that beginning a career can be scary. You'll have many scary moments as you move forward. It's OK to be afraid, as long as you don't let your fear paralyze you. It is best to acknowledge your fear and then take an action to overcome it and achieve career success.

Action cures fear. Even if you try something and fail, you'll learn that failure isn't fatal. You get valuable experience from your failures. If nothing else, you'll learn one thing that doesn't help you achieve career success. Use your failures to help you learn and grow and move forward.

Here is one of my favorite quotes. It comes from Teddy Roosevelt: "It is not the critic who counts; nor the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. Surround Yourself With Positive People

Finally, you can never have too many supportive people around you. Find the people who love you and support you. Find the enthusiastic ones - and hold on to them with all your might. On the other hand, identify the naysayers and people who don't value you for who you are. Bid them farewell. Positive people are important. They will help build your self confidence which is vital in achieving career success. Negative people will drain your self confidence and drag you down with them.

Find a mentor, someone who is willing to help you and show you the ropes. By definition, mentors are positive people. They are willing to share their knowledge and experience to help others learn, grow and achieve career success.

As you get more experience become a mentor and help others achieve career success. Remember when you were starting out. Help others build their self confidence. It will keep you positive and feeling good about yourself.

Your flying fantasies

Recently one of my friends visited me. So he goes on saying that he is unsure what to do during his free time.

As I am the helping kind, I suggested him to take up a new Hobby!
(Clever hah...?)

Well, I didn't suggest him to collect stamps or go creative with his brush. I said him to get a radio controlled helicopter. I sure did the right thing though. This is the biggest craze, at least as far as I can see. I found it in a toy store and even a shopping TV channel.

So what's the big deal?
Unbelievably, in a couple of days my friend gets one to show me. He was fuming and I could see why. He didn't know to fly it. So I take the RC helicopter from him and then press this button.

There was this exact Mayday sequence from a movie. The Helicopter was rotating like crazy and then finally crashed. There was this small propeller at the back which came off and I was the first person to kick in under the couch. He then left as he could clearly see as I was no good. He could fly the thing better than me!

I still have this small propeller lying around. It won't be long enough for him to be back for it...

"Anyways, RC helicopters.... Not my thing!"

I don’t like doing homework.

I know that it will bore me.

The ATM Procedure

I found this article on a magazine. It had me laughing for a long time!

A new sign in the Bank Lobby read:

"Please note that this Bank is installing new Drive-through ATM machines enabling customers to withdraw cash without leaving their vehicles. Customers using this new facility are requested to use the procedures outlined below when accessing their accounts. After months of careful research, MALE and FEMALE procedures have been developed."

Please follow the appropriate steps for your gender:

MALE PROCEDURE

1. Drive up to the cash machine.
2. Put down your car window.
3. Insert card into machine and enter PIN.
4. Enter amount of cash required and withdraw.
5. Retrieve card, cash and receipt.
6. Put window up.
7. Drive off.

FEMALE PROCEDURE

1. Drive up to cash machine.
2. Reverse and back up the required amount to align car window with the machine.
3. Set parking brake, put the window down.
4. Find handbag, remove all contents on to passenger seat to locate card.
5. Tell person on cell phone you will call them back and hang up.
6. Attempt to insert card into machine.
7. Open car door to allow easier access to machine due to its excessive distance from the car.
8. Insert card.
9. Re-insert card the right way.
10. Dig through handbag to find diary with your PIN written on the inside back page.
11. Enter PIN.
12. Press cancel and re-enter correct PIN.
13. Enter amount of cash required.
14. Check makeup in rear view mirror.
15. Retrieve cash and receipt.
16. Empty handbag again to locate wallet and place cash inside.
17. Write debit amount in check register and place receipt in back of checkbook.
18. Re-check makeup.
19. Drive forward 2 feet.
20. Reverse back to cash machine.
21. Retrieve card.
22. Re-empty hand bag, locate card holder, and place card into the slot provided.
23. Give dirty look to irate male driver waiting behind you.
24. Restart stalled engine and pull off.
25. Redial person on cell phone.
26. Drive for 2 to 3 miles.
27. Release Parking Brake.
